Intimate interview becomes tribute on the passing of Aunty Genoa Keawe

When television producer and personality Emme Tomimbang decided to feature Aunty Genoa Keawe in her first 2008 “Island Moments” special, she had no idea it would be the last time she would be paying tribute to the legend of Hawaiian Music. What began as a look back on Aunty Genoa’s nearly seven decades of entertainment, including performing with Johnny Almeida in the 1940s, appearances with Lucky Luck and the Hawaii Calls broadcasts, became a tribute to Genoa’s longevity and influence, after her peaceful passing in late February. Renowned artists such as Kealoha Kalama, Frank Hewett, Amy Hanaiali’i Gilliom, Natalie Kamau’u, Aunty Malia Craver, O’Brian Eselu and others sum up Aunty Genoa’s influence on generations of younger performers in Emme’s affectionate look at the Genoa Keawe legacy.

Perry & Price make radio history - 25 years as #1!

“It’s Perry on the left and Price on the right!” The wake up slogan for thousands and thousands of Hawaii residents six days a week has so dominated the morning drive radio airwaves that first names are not even needed anymore! But Michael W. Perry and Larry Price are two distinct individuals with separate career paths that have blended together and created broadcasting’s most successful duo in history. As they celebrate a quarter of a century together this year, they sit down and talk candidly with Emme about their triumphs, challenges, the standard they have established of being #1 in their time slot for 25 years, and what the future holds for them collectively and individually.

Growing up: Molokai songbird carries torch

Molokai’s Raiatea Helm burst upon the local music scene less than 5 years ago, and has grown both personally and professionally at warp speed. She sits down with Emme for the first time since 2004 to share the struggles and successes of the past three years, including breaking away from family management and charting her own destiny as a businesswoman and a star of Hawaiian music, carrying on the “Ha’i” – the traditional form of Hawaiian falsetto music perpetuated by Aunty Genoa.
